History: Wayne Raine was born to a Castform mother and a Dusknoir father, and for the most part, his early life was a happy one. His mother gave him plenty of love as he grew up, and although his father was often stern and often scolded Wayne for intolerable decisions and actions, it was out of love that the Dusknoir wished to shape his boy. School was pleasant for Wayne, as he made several good friends during his studies. With time, Wayne took an interest in the sciences, particularly those related to aeronautics and flying, and it became his dream to one day become a pilot or aviator. As Wayne grew older, however, he also started to bulge out, his height leveling off as his girth instead began to expand. This concerned Wayne and his parents, primarily because there was no explanation for his rounding out. Diets did nothing to remove the weight, and doctors could only tie Wayne’s sudden height cap and weight gain to genetic issues and possibly a glandular disorder. Wayne took this news the hardest, knowing that he might never be able to fly a plane when he would likely be as tall as a child for the rest of his life. Things only got worse for the boy as he entered middle school, where a group of bullies tormented him for his short, round stature and often stole his money. Wayne and his parents, after alerting them about his problems, proceeded to file reports to the school, but the administration could do little punish the bullies on account of their parents’ standing in society and could only tell Wayne to bear with it. Having no means to defend himself otherwise, Wayne had no choice but to endure this misery for the next few years of middle school and into high school.

A few months after Wayne started high school, he was again cornered by the bullies during his walk home after school. Cattled into a nearby alley, Wayne was again robbed before one boy, having gotten wind of Wayne’s reports to the high school from his father in the administration, decided that the little tattletale needed to be taught a lesson. Drawing a knife from his pocket, the kid prepared to give Wayne a few cuts on his arm as punishment. Scared out of his wits, Wayne struggled against the bullies holding him in place, trying to break free as the bully got closer with the blade. However, as Wayne yelled in fright, a strong wind suddenly blew into the alley and slammed into the bullies, catching them off guard as they braced themselves against the sudden gale. This gave Wayne a chance to slip out of the bullies’ grasp, running as fast as his little legs could take him. The rest was a blur to the Castform as he made his escape, only remembering the bullies chasing him and the occasional strong gust of wind seeming to push him along. The rest faded into darkness.

When Wayne regained consciousness, he was resting on the roof of an apartment complex not too far from where the bullies had cornered him. The Castform was confused for a while before realizing that something had changed. He wasn’t short and round anymore; no, he was now as tall and thin as he had always dreamed of being. Was this some sort of miracle? As he tried to make sense of his new physique, he also tried to find a way down from the rooftop. As he started to climb onto the nearby fire escape, his new center of balance caused him to lose his footing and tumble over the side. Scared, he tried to grab the railings as he fell, but to no avail. As the ground came closer to meet him, his panicked mind cried out for something to save his life. His wish came in the form of a sudden updraft, which surprisingly slowed his descent until he could safely land on his feet. Startled, the boy questioned the odd wind before slowly starting to realize that he had some sort of power. With a small thought, he managed to summon another mild wind, which managed to gently push as if he was as light as the air. Just what had happened to him?

In his worry, Wayne went home to his mother and father, who were worried for their son’s late arrival but also startled by his sudden appearance, barely recognizing him before he began to explain to them what happened. Between the three of them, they started to reach certain realizations as Wayne experimented with his powers. For one, Wayne’s new form was not permanent; he seemed capable of trading height for girth and vice versa, making him seem like someone else entirely when at the opposite end of the spectrum. In addition, Wayne seemed capable of using moves, something that only superheroes could do. In the aftermath of these discoveries, his father instructed him to hide his powers, or else he would be considered a freak and bullied even further. Wayne hesitated at first, considering to use the powers to get even with the bullies who had tried to harm him, but he soon agreed to his father’s words, but only under the condition that he could use his powers in secret to help others. When his father refused and explained the dangers of being a superhero, Wayne remained undeterred and further expressed his desire to be a hero and help those who need it, especially where there had been no one who could help him before. After much coaxing, Wayne convinced his father to change his mind, and Wayne began to develop his alternate identity: the Weather Man. Choosing to remain short and round in public to diversify his secret identity from his tall, thin hero one, he proceeded to practice his powers safely outside the city where he could not be discovered, occasionally testing his powers to stop small crimes in the city. He soon caught the notice of Mount Justice, who offered him a chance to train with real heroes; happily but nervously, he agreed.

Personality: Wayne’s surface personality differs depending on whether he is in a hero or civilian setting. As a hero, he is brave and jolly, trying to resemble a positive role model when others are watching him. As a civilian, he is timid and moody, to juxtapose his civilian self from his hero one. Regardless of whether he is a hero or a civilian, though, Wayne is always very careful, trying his best to keep his identities separate in addition to keeping those around him safe. This can be beneficial or dangerous, as Wayne’s insecurities will often make him hesitate to act until he knows that what he is about to do will not make things worse.

Hobbies:
  • Checking the weather; when one of your moves relies on this, it’s a necessity
  • Pseudo-flying; accomplished when Wayne uses wind with his light body to simulate the experience of flying without actually flying
  • Video games; Wayne grew up with video games, since physical activity was hindered by his body shape growing up
  • Training; Wayne does not mind taking time to improve his skills, so long as no civilians are around to see him using them
